TTC taking more action to stop drivers entering Queens Quay streetcar tunnel

Over the weekend, the transit agency installed six bright striped yellow-and-black bollards near the intersection of Queens Quay and York St., where it believes many drivers who end up in the tunnel first mount the streetcar tracks. The TTC is again stepping up efforts to deter confused drivers from entering the Queens Quay streetcar tunnel. Those tools have not proved completely effective, however, and some unwary drivers have still made their way into the portal and down into the Queens Quay streetcar station. (Installing the bollards) is yet one more effort to make it clear that automobiles are not welcome on the right-of-way and tunnel,” said TTC spokesperson Brad Ross. According to the TTC, about 26 people have driven into the tunnel since 2014, often in the early morning hours.
