UBC engineering students claimed responsibility for the achievement. In 2001, a group claiming to be UBC engineering students suspended a Beetle from the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. A group claiming to be UBC engineering students sent a fax to local media claiming responsibility for the prank.
