A Manawatū house has been destroyed in a suspicious fire. A house in the rural village of Rongotea near Palmerston North caught fire about 7.15pm on Friday. A police spokeswoman said the cause of the fire was still being confirmed, but it was being treated as suspicious. I wasn’t able to sleep for ages.”A Fire and Emergency spokeswoman said fire crews from Rongotea, Palmerston North and Tangimoana attended. There has been a string of fires in the region recently, including blazes in Ashhurst, Feilding, central Palmerston North, Fitzherbert in Palmerston North and Takaro in Palmerston North in the past six weeks.
