A surgeon who has amputated thousands of limbs during his career has returned to work after losing both of his legs to sepsis. Vascular surgeon Neil Hopper, 43, underwent the operation after falling seriously ill with the condition in April, last year. Around 245,000 people develop sepsis in the UK each year and 52,000 die, according to the UK Sepsis Trust.
