The three-metre shark mauled the man's leg while he was surfing at Salt Beach near Kingscliff, New South Wales at around 10am Sunday morning, Sky News reports. He was given first aid on his left leg, but died of his wounds at around 10.40am, a spokesman for Surf Live Saving NSW told Guardian Australia. New South Wales police are still trying to formally identify the man, from Tugun in Queensland, and to contact his family. The attack is thought to be the third fatal shark attack in Australia this year.
