The Supreme Court on Wednesday recorded an undertaking from the Centre and Anil Ambani that he would not leave the country without the court’s permission. The court asked the CBI and the Enforcement Directorate to constitute an SIT to probe the alleged embezzlement of public funds worth ₹1.50 lakh crore by the industrialist and his Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group (ADAG). ADVERTISEMENTThe court also asked the investigating agencies to examine the role of bank officials in the matter. On January 23, the top court had sought status reports from the CBI and the ED on the investigations conducted so far. The apex court had issued the fresh notice after the two respondents had failed to appear before the court on an earlier notice issued in November last year.
