'Students have a bad name': how cities are healing the town v gown divide


The LaunchPad project houses 31 students, young key workers and other under-30s from disadvantaged backgrounds, including care leavers and those who have experienced homelessness. The scheme is inspired by Startblok Riekerhaven in Amsterdam, where more than 500 refugees and local students are housed together. Ali Hastings, Unite’s social impact manager, says the project has changed how it sees its responsibility to the local community. “Local councillors were really positive that it would be used for local community.
