A university student has been charged with impersonating IG Joseph Boinnet and DCI Ndegwa Muhoro by opening a fake Facebook account. He denied the charges before senior principal magistrate Charity Oluoch and was freed on a Sh600,000 bond or Sh330,000 cash bail for all the counts. Cheboiwo was also charged with defrauding Daniel Odero of Sh425,000 by pretending he was in a position to fast-track claims of his brother who died in the line of duty. John Cheboiwo from Kenyatta University was accused of opening the account on December 31, 2015 with the intention of defrauding members of the public. Cheboiwo faces another count of presenting himself on Facebook as the Inspector General of police.
