Singapore has confirmed its first coronavirus patient carrying the potentially more contagious strain of the virus circulating in the United Kingdom, the Ministry of Health said yesterday. The patient confirmed to be carrying the B117 strain is a 17-year-old female who had been studying in the UK since August, Channel News Asia reports. The student developed a fever on December 7, and was confirmed to have the coronavirus infection on December 8, the ministry said. "All her close contacts had been placed on quarantine, and had tested negative for coronavirus infection at the end of their quarantine period," the ministry said. The ministry added that there is "currently no evidence that the B117 strain is circulating in the community.
