The Hang Seng Index closed 479.72 points higher at 24,939. Stocks in Hong Kong and mainland China extended gains as the United States woke up to election day, with the benchmark Hang Seng Index closing 479.72 points higher at 24,939. Sunny Optical Technology (2382) jumped 7.80 percent to HK$141, the best performer among blue chips while AAC Technologies (2018) went up 3.55 percent to HK$42.35. AIA (1299) rose 6.2 percent to HK$77.950 after it revealed that AIA China has been granted approval by the China Banking and Insurance Regulatory Commission to open a new branch in Sichuan. Over in the mainland, the Shanghai Stock Exchange Composite Index added 45.95 points, or 1.42 percent to 3,271 while the Shenzhen Stock Exchange Composite Index rose 31.70 points, or 1.43 percent, to 2,255.
