ALOR STAR: The state Fire and Rescue Department reveled that some private religious schools refuse to take part in the fire rescue squad programme known as ‘Squad Pondok’ due to lack of student participation. “These are some of the negative reaction that we receive when we want to get the private religious schools to set up ‘Squad Pondok’ at their schools. “That is also the reason why we organised a special talk about fire rescue squad to all private religious school administrators in Kedah, Perlis and Penang on Sept 14,” he said in his speech at the launch of the Kedah Central Zone private religious schools fire rescue squad in Jeneri, Sik today. Abdul Razak said since 2014, the department had inspected 118 private religious schools registered with the state Islamic Religious Department (JAIK) in Kedah. “Although we have yet to form a fire rescue squad, we regularly holds fire drill training for our students,” he said.
