Enforcement head fined RM10,000 for bribery


PETRA JAYA: The Kuching Film Control Division enforcement head was fined RM10,000, in default of two months’ jail, by the Special Court for Corruption here today for accepting bribe in 2015. Judge Nixon Kennedy Kumbong delivered the punishment against Omar after admitted to accepting RM1,750 in bribe from a complainant on Jul 27, two years ago. He was convicted under Section 17(a) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009, which carries the maximum 20 years’ jail and RM10,000 fine or five times the value of the bribe, whichever is higher, upon conviction. Nixon slapped Omar with the RM10,000 fine and order his jail sentence of 14 days to run beginning today. Omar on May 26 was also charged with two other charges of accepting the same amount of bribe from the same complainant.
