Latehar SP Mrityunjay Kumar Singh said the incident took place around 3.30pm when the sniffer dog was assisting a combing team in the area, roughly 80km from the district headquarters. The Belgian Shepherd is a sheep herding dog that originated in Belgium. "I am not aware of the dog's name, but it was a Belgian Shepherd. Badal said the deceased dog was part of the sniffer team for two years. Arvind and Sudhakar Reddy, both CPI(Maoist) central committee members, are believed to be holed up in the treacherous terrain.
