Shahid was hanged at the high-security prison at Kashimpur in Gazipur 9:45pm on Wednesday, Senior Jail Superintendent Md Mizanur Rahman told bdnews24.com. Gazipur Civil Surgeon Md Manzurul Haque, Additional District Magistrate Md Rahenul Islam, Jailor Bikash Rayhan and other officials related to execution of a death-row convict were present. Jailor Bikash said Shahid’s younger brother Muhidul Islam and other relatives met him at the jail in the afternoon. The High Court, in its 2006 verdict, upheld death for five, but acquitted Shaniram. After hearing appeals by the convicts, the Supreme Court upheld the death sentence of Shahid on Aug 2 last year.
