Senators want more women in committees

Three Jubilee senators have condemned underrepresentation of women in key National Assembly committees. Nominated senators Martha Wangari and Joy Gwendo accused the Cord of failing to give women a spot in the committee, which will be formally constituted on Tuesday in Parliament. They cited the 14-member committee formed to resolve the IEBC impasse and said women were given a raw deal. “I am speaking on behalf of women of this country and Cord has shown that it does not have the interests of women in its activities,” Gwendo said. The senators criticised Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama over what they called inciteful remarks last week.
