According to Gatchalian, the creation of the NAS will institutionalize mechanisms, fundamentals, and government support to instill excellence among Filipino athletes. The NAS, Gatchalian noted, will be attached to the to the Department of Education (DepEd) together with the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC).
