Sarawak businessman fined RM11,500 over failure to submit GST statements


PETRA JAYA: A transportation company owner was slapped with RM11,500 in fines by the Sessions Court here today for failing to submit his business' Goods and Services Tax (GST) statements. Judge Nixon Kennedy Kumbong meted out the sentence against Yiu Yu Siang after the latter pleaded guilty to five charges of committing the offence. Yiu, who is the owner of Syarikat Manchine Man Company, admitted to failing to submit the GST statements for the period of Jul 1, 2015 until Sept 30, 2015 and Oct 1 until Dec 31 on the same year. The 32-year-old businessman also pleaded guilty to failing to submit his company's GST statements for the three following periods in 2016 - Jan 1 until Mar 31, Apr 1 until Jun 30 and Jul 1 until Sept 30. Nixon the sentenced Yiu to a RM2,000 fine, in default of one month's jail, each for the first and second charge.
