Sabah deputy CM: Sepanggar Bay Port a strategic transhipment hub - Nation

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah is taking full advantage of its location in South-East Asia by developing the Sepanggar Bay Port here as a transshipment hub, said Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Raymond Tan. He said the hub could benefit from regional initiatives, including China’s Belt and Road as well as the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP). Responding to a question from Datuk Charles Pang (BN-Karamunting) at the state assembly, Tan said the failure of the Trans Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPPA) will not affect the move to make the Sepanggar Bay Port a transhipment hub. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman said negotiations between Sabah and the Federal government on the devolution of powers to the state were progressing well. He said a report by the Sabah Rights in the Malaysia Agreement Committee is being finalised after getting feedback from Barisan Nasional and opposition parties.
