SC asks UP government to "show magnanimity in releasing" freelance journalist Prashant Kanojia

YogiKanojiaKanojiaKanojiaKanojiaIn a setback to Uttar Pradesh government, Supreme Court today asked the state government to "show magnanimity in releasing" freelance journalist, Prashant Kanojia , who was arrested for allegedly sharing an objectionable post against Chief MinisterAdityanath on the social media. SC ordered the government to immediately release the journalist on bail.A vacation bench, comprising Justices Indira Banerjee and Ajay Rastogi, said Right to Liberty, a fundamental right, is non-negotiable. It is guaranteed by the constitution and it cannot be infringed. However, the bench said the bail does not mean it approves of the journalist's tweets or posts on social media. "The Hindi journalist was unceremoniously taken away by men in civil dress on June 8 from his Delhi residence. The UP CM is behaving foolishly & needs to release the arrested journalists," Rahul Gandhi tweeted.
