JOHOR BARU: Roadside hawkers operating by the road side in the state will get financial assistance from the state government to upgrade their stalls, beginning next year. He said that the Entrepreneur Development Centre (EDC) has been tasked to undertake the programme expected to benefit some 800 to 1,000 roadside hawkers. Ismail said the roadside hawker programme is only open to existing local hawkers and they must have a license to operate their business. "If they don't have licenses, we will help them to get theirs from the local councils as we don't want to see illegal hawkers operating by the roadside," he said. Ismail said the upgrading exercise would also help to improve the hygiene of the stalls, which would result in better income for the hawkers.
