Fire and Rescue Department ready to face floods nationwide

SHAH ALAM: The Fire and Rescue Department Air Unit has put its assets on standby to face any emergency situation during the coming monsoon season. Department’s assistant director-general (air operations) Mohd Yunos Abu Hassan said it was hoped that the new AW-189 Agusta Westland helicopters would be delivered soon to reinforce operations. "The department has put all our helicopters on standby to face the floods which usually occur towards the end of every year,” he told reporters at Subang air base, near here today. Two others — AW189 — are expected to arrive soon and we hope they will be ready for operations by December." In its fleet today, the Air Unit has two each of Russian-made Mi-17 and Mi-171, two AW139, and one Agusta A109E.
