JOHOR BARU: Marine police have found illicit cigarettes worth RM61,100 in a vehicle with Singapore licence plates near the Sultan Iskandar water treatment plant here. Southern Region Two commander Asst Comm Paul Khiu Khon Chiang said 13 boxes of JM9 White cigarettes were seized on Monday at around 9pm. He added Marine police had tailed the vehicle until it reached an area near the water treatment plant before both men had left the car with its engine still running upon noticing the presence of authorities. “The team took about an hour to search for the suspects but were unsuccessful,” he said adding the RM80,000 car was also seized. ACP Khiu said all of the seized items were brought to Marine Police Region Two headquarters while the case was being investigated under Section 135(e) of the Customs Act 1967.
