New rail yards to be built on Palmerston North's outskirts will engulf part of Railway Rd. Frustration is mounting in the Palmerston North village of Bunnythorpe among residents wanting to know where the roads around KiwiRail’s new monster yards will go. The development will see the rail yards and freight handling areas located between Tremaine Ave and the railway line moved out of the urban area. City council planning manager David Murphy said it was up to KiwiRail to explain the effects of the rail yard on the local transport network. That project was reviewing the upgrades needed to the state highway network in and around Palmerston North.
