The National Party has selected businesswoman Rima Nakhle​ as its candidate for Takanini. In October 2018, after then-leader Simon Bridges accused Ross of leaking his expenses, Ross resigned from the National Party. The father of two has also been accused of acting inappropriately towards his staff, which he denied, and later admitted to having an affair with fellow National Party MP Sarah Dowie. NORTHCOTEJonathan Coleman’s retirement from politics in 2018 triggered a by-election in Northcote, which his National Party colleague Dan Bidois won, but not by much. Tamihere’s former party, Labour, have put forward incumbent and minister Peeni Henare as their candidate.
