Hamilton mayor doesn't want any more isolation hotels

Hamilton’s mayor says the city is prepared to play its part in supporting returning Kiwis but has asked the Government for no more Covid-19 isolation hotels. Paula Southgate said residents are feeling “understandably anxious” after a family-of-five allegedly broke out of managed isolation in Hamilton. The five absconded from the Distinction Hotel on Garnett Ave on Friday night, with four of the group swiftly captured. The city has three assigned isolation hotels – Distinction Hotel, Ibis Hamilton Tainui and Jet Park Hamilton Airport Hotel. The mayor has been invited to inspect the Distinction Hotel and will get a briefing update from those in charge of the facility early this week.
