Delays on construction of Transmission Gully are one example of a lack of government planning around quarries, says the Aggregate & Quarry Association. There’s never been a planning exercise for where the huge quantities of necessary rock, aggregate and sand would come from. Little wonder Transmission Gully is now a $1 billion+ project (up from $850m) and its forecast opening this year may now stretch into 2022. (Local rock supply didn’t make up all the savings but was a big contributor). Wayne Scott is chief executive officer of the Aggregate & Quarry Association.
