Author Maurice Gee sits in the refurbished chair dedicated to him beside Nelson’s Maitai River. It’s uncommon to see celebrated New Zealand writer Maurice Gee making a public appearance. The chair, located beside the Maitai River just upstream from Riverside Pool, was originally installed in 2011 by the New Zealand Society of Authors’ Top of the South branch in honour of its most esteemed member.
