The five channels for pedestrians and cyclists were ignored by most. At least eight personnel were stationed at the crossing to ensure that pedestrians crossed the road only after vehicles stopped. A sergeant stood a few feet away, trying to get cyclists and pedestrians walking down the Bypass to use the channels created with guardrails. "A broken portion of the pavement along the Ultadanga-bound flank of the Bypass has been repaired. As of now, we have placed guardrails to mark a part of the road for pedestrians and cyclists to use," a police officer said.
