Sanjay MandalCalcutta: The Indian Coast Guard has responded to a call from the Chinese consulate in Calcutta and sprung to the aid of a Chinese mariner who took ill aboard a cargo ship off Sagar Islands. Xia Jianting, 46, is part of the crew of Yan Dun Jiao-1, a merchant vessel, Coast Guard officials said. The Coast Guard maritime rescue sub-centre in Haldia found that the Coast Guard ship Raziya Sultana, based in Paradip, Odisha, was on a routine patrol near the area along the international borders. Following instructions, the medical assistant administered injections to stabilise the condition of Xia," a Coast Guard official said. But it was difficult for a big vessel like Raziya Sultana, which needs deep waters, to take Xia to Haldia.
