Rising damp a major problem in Wellington houses - Victoria UniversityJOHN NICHOLSON/FAIRFAX NZ Many Wellington homes are insulated without ventilating, a top landlord saysOver half of the houses in a Wellington study are dangerously damp and one in eight have major maintenance problems. Many Wellington houses studied by Victoria University had major moisture issues. The 10 most common problems were asbestos, concrete spalling, corrosion, decay of timber, electrics, external water management, movement, subfloor moisture, subfloor structure and wall moisture. Research by Victoria University has analysed a sample of 70 standalone houses from 12 years of building inspections done by Buildsure Associates. Isaacs said the problems found were not unique to Wellington or New Zealand and common for timber houses.
