She was 5min behind van der Breggen, who will be Villumsen's main rival in her top event the time trial on Thursday (NZT). Dutch team chef de mission Maurits Hendriks was quoted as saying van Vleuten had regained consciousness and was in an ambulance. Her Dutch team-mate Anna van der Breggen won the race in a tense sprint finish, but there were mixed emotions as the cyclists desperately sought updates on van Vleuten's condition. Van Vleuten was part of a seven-woman break at the 39km mark.
