1-ranked 3A team in all of Texas, the Newton Eagles, defeated the Rice Bulldogs 65-11 in the Region II Class 3A DII Area Round playoffs Friday. Fowler ran for two touchdowns and threw for two touchdowns and Barlow ran for three TDs to lead Newton. Believe it or not, this was one of the closest games anyone gave Newton all season. That's how dominant the Eagles, who are the top-ranked 3A team in the respected Harris poll, have been all year. Newton: Darwin Barlow 8-191-3TD, Valderion Fowler 5-64-TD, Kevin Watson 5-64, Josh Foster 3-46-2TD, Tamauzia Brown 3-39, Cory Foster 1-6 & Nate Williams 3 – (-18).
