Sub-Inspector Ataur Rahman allegedly demanded Tk25,000 from his two wives, promising that if they paid him the money, he would not torture their husband in remand. Later when they failed to pay the money the sub-inspector and his two sources Nazrul and Shuvo allegedly raped the women. Following reports published on the incident in the media, district police has formed a three-member probe committee headed by ASP Faruque. Faruque told Dhaka Tribune: “The committee did not get any evidence of the SI’s involvement with the rape.”Police sources Nazrul and Shuvo were the masterminds of the rape incident, he added. Mojidul Rahman, plaintiff’s lawyer, alleged that the police had pressured the victims to not press charges against the SI.
