The CHT Land Dispute Resolution Commission (Amendment) Act, 2016 was gazetted on August 8. The five groups – Parbatya Ganaparishad, Parbatya Chattagram Somo-Odhikar Andolon, Parbatya Bangali Chhatra Parishad and Parbatya Bangali Chhatra Oikya Parishad – have called the hartal to thwart the first meeting of the CHT Land Dispute Resolution Commission after the amendment of the law, scheduled today. The announcement was made at a press conference at Rangamati Diploma Engineers Institute auditorium yesterday. Speaking at the press conference, leaders of the organisations alleged that a conspiracy had been hatched to evict Bangalis living in the CHT using the amended law. Meanwhile, officials of the CHT Land Dispute Resolution Commission said the venue of its meeting can be shifted from CHT Development Board, Rangamati, if needed.
