Rain havoc includes 2 IWK sewage treatment plants being fully submerged

GEORGE TOWN: Two Indah Water Consortium's (IWK) sewage treatment plants in Penang were fully submerged due to the extraordinary rainfall that struck the state on Saturday. National Water Service Commission (SPAN) chairman Datuk Liang Teck Meng said the two plants were inaccessible and IWK could not determine the level of damage. He said the temporary water disruption faced by several areas on the island was due to the three clean water supply plants which was affected by the muddy flood water. The three plants, located at Tanjung Bungah, Pulau Tikus and Taman Botani, were blocked with mud near the water intake area. He said that Penang Water Supply Corporation (PBAPP) was unable to clean it up immediately but the water supply resumed to normal on Sunday.
