Racism complaint lodged against judge who acquitted Alberta parents in meningitis death of toddler

The two had faced a charge of failing to provide the necessaries of life after the 19-month-old boy’s death in 2012. The Crown argued that the Stephans should have taken him to the hospital more expeditiously given that he had bacterial meningitis. Their expert witness was Dr. Bamidele Adeagbo, a former medical examiner in Calgary who testified that his autopsy showed Ezekiel had died from bacterial meningitis. The defence witness was Dr. Anny Sauvageau, who argued Ezekiel had meningitis, but that it was viral, and it did not cause his death.
