The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) is convening in New York on Thursday to discuss the latest developments on the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) at the request of Egypt and Sudan. The session follows the failure of talks between the two downstream countries and Ethiopia. Tunisia is the only Arab non-permanent member in UNSC in its current session. De Riviere also called on observers to take a more active role in the negotiations between Egypt, Ethiopia and Sudan. The Ethiopian minister asserted that there will be no damage to neighbouring countries amid the filling of the GERD reservoir.
