ADDIS ABABA — A military helicopter belonging to the Ethiopian Air Force crashed on Saturday at the Belay Zeleke International Airport in Bahir Dar, the capital of the Amhara region, according to media reports. The crash occurred around midday, but details remain scarce, including whether military officials or government representatives were on board, according to Borkena News. As a result of the crash, all flights to and from Bahir Dar, including Ethiopian Airlines services, have been suspended, according to passengers and sources. The crash follows a visit to Bahir Dar on Friday by Ethiopia’s defense chief, Field Marshal Berhanu Jula, who met with regional defense officials. Reports also indicated that two military helicopters had been flying frequently in the area over the past two days.
