Addis Ababa, November 17, 2024 (FBC) – African Ministerial Conference on the Environment (AMCEN) convened its consultative meeting in Baku, Azerbaijan, on the sidelines of COP29 on Sunday. Led by AMCEN President, the Ethiopian Planning and Development Minister, Fitsum Assefa (PhD), the meeting brought together African leaders, experts, and partners to discuss critical environmental issues, climate negotiations, and sustainable development priorities for Africa. Together, we can maintain the interests of Africa,” Fitsum remarked. Fitsum also reiterated Ethiopia’s commitment to driving Africa’s climate agenda forward. The meeting concluded with key outcomes: reflection on Africa’s COP29 progress in week 1, call for ministerial leadership in week 2 negotiations and venue planning for AMCEN 2025.
