Four suspected members of a Sundarbans-based bandit gang, including its leader, have been arrested by Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) after an alleged gunfight in Satkhira’s Kateshwar Khal range. RAB identified the detainees as “Zia Bahini” chief Ziaur Rahman Zia, 37, and his associates Mintu Gazi 32, Masum Bilah, 25, Yunus Ali Pach, 24. RAB 6 Commanding Officer Khandakar Rafiqul Islam said that they had raided Kateshwar Khal area early Monday after being tipped off about the gang’s location. “They opened fire on us, triggering a gunfight but retreated after about a 20-minute standoff,” he said. CO Rafiqul said that they would hand over the four men to Shyamnagar police.
