Photo: ODT filesThe Queenstown Lakes District Council has requested $68 million from the Crown Infrastructure Parterns' "shovel ready" fund, hoping to create more than 1600 jobs and bring in upwards of $1 billion in economic benefits. Nationally, the $800 million fund will support infrastructure projects which are ready to go within the next six to 12 months and add significant value to New Zealand’s economic recovery from the Covid-19 crisis. Mayor Jim Boult said investment in the infrastructure projects would have an important role in supporting the district, both socially and economically, "as we move to a new post-Covid-19 normal". The application for funding was submitted on Tuesday.
