Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane's office has withdrawn subpoenas it issued against Constitutional Court justices Jody Kollapen and Dunstan Mlambo – after threats of urgent legal action by the General Council of the Bar (GCB). "The delivery of the subpoenas is… a direct attack on the judiciary and impacts upon the dignity and independence of the judiciary. It thus constitutes an abuse of office on the part of the Public Protector and is inconsistent with her duties under section 165 of the Constitution," the GCB's lawyers wrote in a letter to the Public Protector investigator who issued subpoenas against Kollapen and Mlambo.
