Security personnel guard outside a cinema house after the release of the film Padmaavat in Delhi on Thursday. As a preventive measure, 100 Karni Sena protesters were detained in Mumbai, while Suraj Pal Singh Amu, general secretary of the Karni Sena was arrested in Gurugram for his inflammatory statements. Multiplexes across Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Goa, Rajasthan and Gujarat refrained from screening the film. Multiplex Association of India, the representative body of multiplex owners, said its members would not screen the movie in Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Goa. On Thursday, even as Haryana remained tense following Wednesday’s protests, state police officials said they were continuing to monitor the situation in the area.
