The lack of proper uniform could cause someone to question whether or not they were dealing with an officer of the law. Media reported Tuesday that Laval municipal judge Martine Hébert acquitted a driver facing a $1,300 fine because the officer who awarded the violation was wearing camouflage pants. They are asking for a re-assessment into another pay grade, where their salary would be around $61,000. Without directly commenting on the case, Coiteux said the decision supported the arguments he has put forward. The union is demanding the addition of 50 to 60 constables for courthouses outside of larger city centres, saying they are concerned regarding the security in these institutions.
