Mortgaged property investors remained the dominant buyer group in the housing market in March, new CoreLogic buyer classification data shows. For the third consecutive month, mortgaged investors were responsible for 29 per cent of property purchases nationwide in March. CoreLogic senior property economist Kelvin Davidson said when cash investors, who had a 12 per cent market share, were added in it was a clear illustration of the role investors had played in recent months. It might take time for the effects of the changes to show through in the data but from about June he expected anticipated the buyer classification data would show a drop in mortgaged investors’ market share, he said. It fell from 25 per cent of property purchases in the third quarter of last year down to 21 per cent in March.
