Premier League managers set for ANOTHER spat as IFAB extends five-subs rule until December 2022

Premier League managers look set to re-ignite the fierce debate over whether to allow five substitutions in a match after the International Football Association Board (IFAB) agreed to extend the temporary rule until 31 December 2022. However, despite IFAB's rule, the Premier League did not agree to take up the five-substitute option, an issue that bitterly pitted club managers against each other. Acceptance of the rule requires a majority of 14 Premier League managers to agree, and the last vote, in December, was deadlocked at 10-10. Five substitutions were allowed in the Premier League when matches began again following the national lockdown last season in order to ease the pressure on players as matches came thick and fast. However, Premier League clubs voted against extending the five subs rule in August and again in September, with each ballot reportedly finishing 11-9 against.
