European regulator approves Pfizer vaccine for children aged 12-15

The Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine was the first one granted authorization across the 27-nation EU when it was licensed for use in anyone 16 and over in December. Immunising children against Covid-19 might also give authorities more confidence to reopen schools, as getting children to wear masks and social distance has been challenging. Of more than a billion Covid-19 jab administered globally, fewer than 2% have gone to poor countries. Moderna and Pfizer-BioNTech have been testing their vaccines in children from the age of 11 down to six months. China’s Sinovac has also submitted early data to the country’s regulators, hoping to prove its vaccine is safe in children as young as three.
