The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) denied the allegations levelled against them saying that many power projects have been delayed due to the delay in approving them by the commission. The Minister told the media that the Government has already decided to establish an alternate organisation similar to the PUCSL. According to the Sri Lanka Electricity Act, the commission is responsible for approving power generation plans and approving the calling for proposals to build power plants (request for proposal) and power purchasing agreements. Accordingly, the commission has given its fullest co-operation and approval to the CEB for implementing the “Least Cost Long-Term Generation Plans”, EUPUCSL President Nilantha Perera said. Meanwhile, the PUCSL is yet to be officially informed about any decision taken regarding the commission.
