No decision has yet been taken on whether or not to impose a quarantine curfew during the festive season, according to National Operations Centre for Prevention of Covid-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) Head Lt. Gen. Shavendra Silva. Addressing the media yesterday (22), the NOCPCO Head further stated that they do not intend to impose such a curfew or unnecessarily isolate areas currently not under isolation. “There is no need to impose travel restrictions or impose laws. People in this country are intelligent; the intelligent public must understand global behaviour regarding Covid-19.”He noted that further action with regard to the new variant of the virus would be taken by the Director General of Health Services and the health sector under the President’s direction, after analysing the situation. However, while noting there is currently no need for travel restrictions, he warned that action would be taken to impose them at any moment if the situation calls for it.
