Sophie HuiNo washing machine model can save electricity and water at the same time, the Consumer Council has found. It tested 18 models - 10 front-loading models, five top-loading impeller models and three European top-loading models. However, top-loading impeller models were found to use the most water, whereas the front-loading models saved about 50 percent of water and European top-loading models saved 55 percent. The council said top-loading impeller models took less time to complete their wash cycles and thus can save more electricity than the front-loading and European top-loading models. The three European top-loading models and six front-loading models were more desirable, as they achieved 4.5 out of five points in the test.
